This blanket is light in weight but warm because the bottom side layer (the white colored layer) is so thick and fluffy. The blanket is made from two separate layers sewn together around the edges. The top layer is the colored side and is fairly thin but with a soft fuzzy texture. The underside is the white layer which is fairly thick and fluffy.The washing instructions say to wash in cold water or dry clean.I washed the blanket after using it for a while. I washed it in cool water with laundry detergent and half a cup of peroxide as a disinfectant (I have a cold right now) and dried it in the dryer on medium heat. The blanket came out perfectly - still very soft and warm and smelling pleasant.The good:Light in weight but warm.Very soft feeling on both the top and bottom sides.Does not seem to be allergenic (at least for me) - no strong smell.Generous length (I'm fairly tall).Minor concern:Because the two layers are only sewn together at the edges (no quilting or bonding between the layers) I noticed that when I put the blanket in the dryer to air it out (I have allergies) even though I had not washed it, I had to slightly stretch back out the blanket to flatten it. In truth, its a trade-off - Not quilting or bonding the layers makes the blanket lighter, softer, and warmer.I just received my blanket and placed it on my bed. It is more the size of a large throw on my queen size bed which is fine for my purposes. I have begun using fleece sheets but one blanket is not warm enough. I am using this one on top. It is very soft on both sides. I will have to update later on how it holds up when washed and how warm it is. It is light weight.The reason I gave it 4 stars is I ordered brown and received dark green. I like the dark green very much and had all ready resigned myself after reading another review that I might not receive the color I ordered. In my room, any of the colors would have worked but that might not be the case for someone else.It actually is the second one I get I had one back home got another one when i moved out to study when you first get it is like sleeping on a cloud there is nothing more comfortable than this. After a month or so and even more after you wash it, it losses some of its softness even if you follow the washing directions. It is still a comfortable blanket do not misundertstand me but you never get again the first high of how it comes. If i had the money i would by a new one every month.It is so comfortable that when the crappy mattres i bought strated ruining my back i actually slept just on the floor with the blanket and it was more confortable.We actually bought this for the dog - we wanted to use it as a comfortable wintertime couch cover so he could stay warm and the couch wouldn't smell like a dog.But as soon as we took it out of the package, we decided we were keeping it for ourselves. It's THAT soft and comfy. The construction is actually a little bit on the light and cheap side; the "sherpa" layer isn't really attached to the "fleece" layer anywhere but the edges. In reality this isn't really a problem though.Currently we're using this on our bed. This blanket goes directly on top of us, and a heavier comforter goes on top of this. It is the most comfortable thing I've ever owned.The blanket has a lovely luxurious "feel" to it. It looks nice, is a generous size and very suitable for year-round use, not too heavy, not too light. However, the manufacturer doesn't seem to have finished the job. Joining the two layers only at the outer edges means the layers "swim" loosely and get into a real tangle, so that it's hard to make the bed. It would have been definitely five stars except for this design flaw. The layers really need to be quilted together so that the piece acts as a unit.Purchased this for a Christmas present. It took a while to get here and when it arrived I took a peek. It seemed luxurious and I was excited to give for a gift. When it was received and opened I noticed that the fleece was only attached to the sherpa side by the outside seems. It was like a huge pillow case sewn shut. You could pull the front from the back. It wasn't stitched down anyway except edges. Also this seller was very quick to turn over the payment to collection from a mistake. What a hassle. Do not buy from this seller, cheap product, and lousy customer service.Bought this as a gift for my wife. It feels very lightweight, but she said it was very warm. I didn't believe her. So, one day she's at work and I'm home and cold. I wrap up in the blanket and it is indeed very warm. It is also super soft. The cats love it. In fact, that is almost a problem. We are constantly having to kick cats off of this blanket so that we can use it.I originally bought this blanket for myself, but my son saw it and stole it from me. This incredible blanket is reversible; both sides are soft and amazingly comfortable. The blanket is definitely warm, but not stifling. You can curl up and be extremely comfortable watching a movie or going to sleep. One side is so smooth and the other is cotton ball soft. Either side works. My son has been using his new blanket for bed and for snuggling in front of the television n cold nights. Great buy! We are definitely planning on buying one for each bedroom.
